The oldest flower shop in Brasschaat

1952

On April 4, 1952, Petrus de Goede opened “Bloemen Expres” at Bredabaan 286. This was not only his first owned business but also Brasschaat’s first flower shop. At that time, it was common to buy flowers ‘at the countryside,’ directly from the grower’s florist.

1960

In 1960, the shop made a move: the country house at Bredabaan 288 was converted into a store. This building was formerly the entrance to the municipal park, but after the purchase the castle estate was subdivided by the municipal council, the land was parcelled out. An ideal base for a successful flower shop and its growing customer base in the surrounding houses.

1969

When the Bredabaan underwent major construction works in 1969, including the construction of the main sewer and the removal of tram tracks and cobblestones, the flower shop joined. The country house was transformed into an apartment building with three floors. During the renovations, the ground floor remained intact: the shop activity simply continued there.

Many years and a name change later; you will find more than just a flower shop at the same address. de Goede Bloemen is now a true playground that moves with the seasons, where you can see florists in action in an open workspace.
